Layne and I are silly people. There is no telling when a perfectly normal conversation about how our day was and what we want to eat for dinner will devolve into something utterly silly. Case in point.
Also, if you don’t know what a boffer weapon is, HERE is a Wikipedia article on the subject. Most of you who’ve come from Weregeek will know that I LARP on a regular basis, but here’s something you may not have known – the games I play in are not boffer LARPs! ie – we don’t carry padded weapons. All of our ‘combat’ is done with dice rolls or games of rock/paper/scissors. So now you know!
Also, if I ever write an expose about my experiences LARPing, I would now have to title it “Boffer Butt”. Hee.

There’s two kinds of LARP: ‘Run around and hit things’ LARP, and ‘stand around and look poncy’ LARP.
Boffer weapons are the hallmark of the former style, which I don’t do because I’m lazy and out of shape.
The latter style is the kind that uses dice or (boo, hiss) R/P/S to decide mechanics questions. It tends to be much more about social interaction than anything else. With the right group it can be great fun.

there are whole companies in Germany which design wonderfull boffer-weapons, such as these http://www.shop.allerley.ch/Waffen/Larp/Wuchtwaffen/ so I guess I’m pretty much spoilt.
But I think the differences in LARP between the country are very interesting!
Guess I’d take “Boffer Weapon Butt” as a comliment too! heehee ^^

I miss RPS and using adjectives to describe my stats. It was a simpler game back then…where nobody needed to carry a deck of cards or a d10 with them.

The latex weapons we use over here are so much cooler than boffer weapons. On the other hand, so much more expensive…

Ah, the days of R/P/S. I ended up making up cards for them so it was harder to telegraph a pattern. I find the new world system less satisfying than the new system, but it’s still fun to LARP with people.
