OMGOWLS!!!

Guys, guys!! Have you SEEN the Owl Box yet??? Oh, man. I discovered it just after my mega-wildlife-watching trip to Friday Harbor, and I was instantly hooked. Basically, there’s a camera in the nest of a barn owl couple. Man. That sounds boring, but I have been absolutely riveted since I found it. (But then, I am weird like that, especially when it comes to birds of prey… Cute, fuzzy little birds of prey…)

When I first started watching, the eldest chick, Max, had just hatched. Now, a few days later, he’s got a sibling they’ve called Pattison. It’s really cool seeing the two chicks together, because one of them is so obviously bigger and more well-developed that the other! Also – OWL CHICKS!! EEEEE!!!

Sorry. I fear that I will be quite incoherent until they are fledged. Maybe even later…

Don’t get too attached, if there’s not enough food for both, Max WILL eat Pattison.
Barn Owls do that all the time.

Arg! Man they are cute! reminds of evening on my grandparents home. They used to live in a small community south of Mexically, sort of an Oasis on the dessert, all kind of wild animals would nest there, among them where some big Owls, It was good, no rats dared to make to much fuzz… but it was not so good when puppies or kittens dissapeared 🙁

Hehe..that brings back good times. In my old company, I got half the office hooked up on a Malayan Tapir webcam. There was a near-riot when they were relocated, and we saw them being put in the car on the cam without knowing what was going on.

(Hapy end: They get a bigger and nicer location which was wired with webcams also).
